Too Successful ?
Hi Keith
I' d like to ask you a couple of things apart from magnum,if thats ok and been an ex bookmaker you might be able to help me.
I'm also a member of on the oche (and like yourself is a very profitable and excellent service)also going to add football elite later this year to my portfolio.
However i also try and use the free tips hugh taylor gives out on the at the races website.
Theres so many mug punters out there who must be backing his horses at any prices, you can take advantage of this as long as you get on advised prices.
He normally gives bets out between 10 and 11 so you have to keep refreshing the page, and then you only have a couple of minutes before prices are gone,
so i just concentrate on the one bet and only bet if i can get the advised price.
Excellent trading opportunities as i always lay my stake back at lesser odds giving me free bets, the last 7 months i,ve made about £4000 with hardly any risk.
I try to use shops as much as possible because its alot easier to put bets on,as alot of my accounts are getting restricted.
Now i don,t have any problems with ladbrokes as yet,but up to a couple of weeks ago william hills were taking my bets no problem, then i had a £200 winner at 13/2 witch i laid back at 9/2.Overall i,d say my hills phone account is making a loss there end and a profit my end if you know what i mean.
Now every time i call hills im put on hold and refered to trading and even just cut off the other day,for example i wanted a £100 at 12/1 and they only offered me £25.
Just wondering when my account details come up does it come up red alert hugh taylor bet refer to trader or something similar, they are really doing my head in to be honest.
You been an ex bookmaker how do traders actually operate and make decisions.
Is there a way i can get round this maybe closing my account leaving it a few weeks and re opening on a different card.
Bookmakers make millions off all the mug punters why can,t they just give a little back for the likes of us !
Sorry for going on a bit.
Regards richie.
Hi Richie
Bookmakers make their profits providing a service to punters, it's not about winners or losers - its all about profit.
Don't take it personally if you get restricted, look on it as YOU being an intelligent punter, and as with all intelligent punters, you have ot work out ways of getitng on, and getting on at the best prices
Bookmakers just want to make money and Bookmakers intelligence today is huge, as they have so much technology these days.
The only WINNING accounts bookmakers tolerate is the free accounts that are given to trainers to bet on their own horses, even if these accounts show a loss, its rare for the bokmaker to ask for the money, as this account, tips off the bookmaker that the yard is ON"
Be honest, if YOU were running a business, would you keep letting people take your profits ?
I would suggest, if possible using the exchanges more - you tend to get better prices on larger priced runners anyway, and their are several exchanges out there.
Another way is to get a friend to help you out, ask them to open an account and then let you use it, closing an account then re-opening at a later date with the same card, name and address will not stop them putting a restriction on your account - just the opposite really as this will only arouse suspicion.
Their are plenty of Bookmakers out there, I would suggest you open as many accounts as you can and make full use of them, coupled with some exchange accounts.
I hope this helps

Friday 21st May - Magnum Horse Racing Evening Update
Good Evening
It's a sort of De Javu (I hope i've spelt that right)
4 horses again and the first one wins again !! a bit like Groundhog day! lol - Our first Lay, Wake Up Call in the 2.30 Yarmouth ran a good race to win at odds on 4/5.
Our next lay was Faithful Dutchess in the 3.20 Catterick - ran no sort of race at all really to finish 5th @ 11/4
Foreign Rhythm was next in the 5.20 at Catterick - thiswas not really at the races at all and finished 6th, shame it drifted to 7/2 but my guess is, most of you were on ;-)
And last but not least, the 7.30 at Haydock and Red Gulch, the mount of Kieren Fallon, plenty of money
for this horse backing it down from 5/2 to 6/4 but just wasn't good enough.
Right, i'll be back tomorrow, have good evening

Magnum Racing Evening Update - A Strange Day ? May 19th Wednesday
Evening Everyone
I don't know about you but it seemed a bit of an odd day today, we had 4 potential lays, 3 lost
one won. Mediterranean Sea in the 1.50 Lingfield was a winner @ 10/3, it was slightly outside of our range to proof but people were most certainly on as it ranged greatly in avaialble prices, the lowest I saw was 2.78.
Crazy Parachute in the 4.10 Lingfield, ridden by the same pilot Ryan Moore was all over the place in running, avaialble at 3/1 & 11/4 before the off, but finished a distant 10th @ 4/1, again outside of our proofing range.
Silver Story in the 6.50 Worcester went on a massive drift in price from 7/2, eventually unseating the rider
after making several mistakes finished @ 7/1, outside of our proofing range
Native Taipan, in the 7.20 Worcester was the only straightforward lay today, going off the 2/1 joint favourite - Robert Thornton's mount tried to make all in this 3 mile novice chase but got easily claimed in the last furlong by the other McCoy ridden Joint favourite (McCoy did us a favour this time) American world and
Mzuri Bay.
Native Taipan finished 3rd @ 2/1 rounding off the evening and a somewhat frustrating day
Roll on tomorrow
Goodnight

Magnum Noon Message Tuesday May the 18th
Good Afternoon
The message is a little bit late on today but it is indeed a very quiet day. This is fine as it gives me a chance
to just have a quick chat about something.
As you know, I don't normally recommend anything to you outside of racing, and the products or services
that I can recommend are tried and trusted products.
Have quite a lot of Magnum members gives you a good perspective on what people really want and the obvious answer when it comes ot our service is "To Make Money"
Now I have started this year to do a lot more marketing online, not just for the Magnum Lay Service but
also for the Perfect Lays system, I also have one or two other products I market to people.
Magnum members have indicated to me in the past, they would like perhaps to create an online income, perhaps part time or even as a full time income eventually.
I got very interested in this product as the "opener" is a series of FREE Videos (worth$197) about how
a NEWBIE can make money online - you might want to CLICK HERE and take a look.
No update message tonight, see you tomorrow

Monday 17th May Evening Update
Good Evening
Well, not a great start to our week. Flouncing was 3rd @ 9/2 but was well over our guide price,
which was a shame as I took 3.85 this morning. Now I know some of you were probably on it anyway
but i have a tip you may want to try.
When I work on these horses in the morning, I obviously take into account it's chances of winning
as opposed to it's price on offer, now with Flouncing, in my view this was 3/1 chance, however when she
started drifting out beyond this price, we are no longer at an advantage because if she wins (drifters often do)
the price starts to become value to the backers.
Now I was asked the other day, "so what if it drifts out beyond the recommended price as long as we aren't
on past 3/1 (4.0), it shouldn't matter - this is true in many repects except the amount that do go on to win after a seismic drift. I do the following, I BUY it back in with part of the stake in a case like this so I CAN'T LOSE...
In this case 60% of the lay stake as a WIN bet would break you even whatever happend, leaving 40%
of the stake as a profit whatever happened.
I hope I haven't baffled anyone here, but if you need further explaination, let me know
keitheverett@nltworld.com
Our other lay - Feathered Crown won @ 15/8 (3.0), so depending what you did today, you were either
2.0 points down or 1.05 points down.
Worst ways we are still 9.8 points UP on the Month and we have plenty of time to go to get to INCREASE
this before the end of the month.
If you are not a Magnum member yet - confidence has never been so high in the Magnum camp
and I fully expect this year to turn into our BEST yet......
Have a good night
See you tomorrow, where we can do it all again..

Horse Racing - The Different Types of UK Races
To someone new to horse racing, it can be very confusing trying to understand the different types of horse races. In this article I just want to try and explain in simple terms what they all mean. First of all there are three different types of professional horse racing in the UK. They are Flat racing, all weather and national hunt. When we talk about flat racing we are talking about races on the turf and the season runs from April until November.
All weather racing is also run over the flat but on a poly track or fibre sand surface. The main all weather racing takes place from November until March. National hunt is predominantly a winter sport involving racing and jumping either over fences or the small obstacles called hurdles. There are also a few national hunt flat races which are also called bumper races.
In flat racing there are 5 Classic races spread throughout the season. These are The Derby, Oaks, 1000 and 2000 guineas and the St Ledger. In National Hunt the 2 main races are the Gold Cup at Cheltenham and the King George VI held on Boxing Day at Kempton Park.
Some races are restricted to horses of a specific age such as 2 or 3 year olds and others may be limited to horses that have never won a race and are known as maiden races. Two other types of race that you may come across are sellers and auction races. A horse that wins a selling race will after the race be offered up for sale in an auction and so these contests are usually for horses of lesser ability. It may sound as though the same thing would happen to the winner of an auction race but in fact it is not. An auction race is for horses that have been purchased as yearlings at public auction and the winner is not offered for sale after the race.
The other terms that you will come across are handicap and non-handicap. In a handicap race an official aptly named the handicapper assesses the form of all the horses entered in the race and based on that allots a weight for each horse to carry. What in theory he is trying to do is make it so all the horses in the race finish together. Of course that very rarely happens but can make for exciting racing. In non-handicap races the horse in theory all carry the same weight. I say in theory because allowance is made for age, sex and the experience of the jockey riding the horse.
An understanding of the various types of horse race can help you in your search to find the winner of a race.

Back Amongst The Winners
Good Evening
Johannes won for us today @ 11/1 paying 14.29 on Betfair. This follows on from recent winners
of 14/1 & 12/1 in the last few days. This service has really taken off recenly and even with some long losing
runs, the profits are good and the service is already creeping up the Racing Index rankings.

Evening update - Wednesday 12th May
Evening Folks!
We had 3 lays today on the Magnum Lay Service , our first one was Forte Dei Marmi in the 1.40 at York,
this was a well betaen 4th @ 9/4.
Our next lay was Shinnecock Bay, in the 2.20 Exeter and ridden by AP McCoy - this lost and was 8th, it's a shame this drifted badly to 9/2 as it won't count in our results as it was too big to lay.
Our third one won @ 15/8, this was Cappagh in the 2.50 at Exeter, this ran a fairly good race and was
coerced to win by the champ, he won, we lost - you can't win them all.
Down, 1.2 points on the day, net profit on the month +9.9
I will be back tomorrow

A Break Even Day at The Office...
Today we had 2 lays on the Magnum Lay Service, the first was Touch Tone who came 2nd @ 5/4
and our other lay was Synthe Davis which ran a very scratchy race all the way around and was being niggled along most of the way by AP McCoy but did go on to win @11/8.
A small profit, or break even on the day, depending on the price you took
This takes this month's profit to +11.1 points profit at the moment

A Question From Michael - Monday Evening 10th May
Evening Keith
You are flying at the moment and well done however I have missed out on a couple of occasions, namely today and yesterday and for some reason I wasn't matched.
I usually log on to betfair straight away after I have received your selections and place the lays immediately if 4.0 or below and if not leave a lay at 4.0 to be placed if and when it drops with bet to be cancelled at start of the race.
Yesterday with Supreme Plan had to leave the lay as not trading at 4.0 or below when I looked and this was never matched even though sp was 5/2 and bsp was 3.75. Again today similar scenario with Cheviot with sp of 11/4 and bsp was 4.23. So basically I have missed out on 1.9 points profit so any suggestions.
Also today with the Barney Curley horse placed a lay at 4.0 and returned at bsp of 1.58 (massive gamble going down as always with his runners) now had that horse won I would have been 3 points down as opposed to just over half a point. Now I am not complaining about the selections as they are spot on just the fact that I don't always get matched.
I think the only time it went against me was when I laid at 4.0 which was accepted then it drifted way out to make it a no lay but I had already laid it at 4.0 about half an hour before which I find incredibly frustrating when the horse then goes and wins.
So what do you advise?
Thanks in advance for any help
Mick
Answer:
Hi Mick
Thanks for letting me answer this question on the Blog, other members & guests probably have the same
problems so it's nice that we can have a forum type situation, if anyone else has any other questions, please reply to this post.
You have also told me you are not by a computer ALL DAY...
I think it's always awkward when their are parameters for prices, we stopped advising laying at Betfair SP
because even though the price was right, the mighty betfair maching still didn't always take the money even
though there is a fortune traded through Betfair before the off - when you leave lays, it's always a risk you
may not get matched.
With regard to getting caught out on a big drifter (one of my pet hates) you could lay it at 4.0 in the morning, then place a proviso win bet with a minimum price of say 5.0, then if they drift and win you would not have been on the lay side but you would have been on the win side, and you would make a small profit.
It's always a balancing act trying to get the right price to lay at and you are not going to get it right all the
time, if you see a horse at 4.2 and the advice is lay @ 4.0 or under I would probably take it, I'm very confident in the overall picture of things that our new strategy of 4.0 or under will pay off in the long term as we will always hover around the 80% win rate (past months may have dropped our strike rate to about 77%
but as long as we always lay at around the 4.0 mark, we must profit in the long run, AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON...
To always be on may mean having to stretch the price over a bit, I personally won't lay at over 4.0 now but if
I couldn't be here to keep an eye on the price, I would either place a lay and a back bet as explained earlier or on the odd occasion, lessen the stake slightly to keep the same liability as if it was a normal stake on at 4.0.
As you said, you can phone the lay over, they should be able to give you an idea of where the price is heading, remember if in doubt - leave it out.

My Horse Racing Tips for a Perfect Lay Bet
Having discovered the fortunes of laying some 4 years ago, I wanted to pass some of my best lay tips on to you
The Power of the Sprint lay.
At the start of a 5 & 6 Furlong dash, and in 7 furlong races, the dash to the line starts where every race starts - the stalls. As these sprinters fly out of the traps, the bee-line for the best position is sought.
Often it can be a hostile barging match with the favorite sometimes getting the worst of it.
As these powerful sprinters go hurtling down the track, you can often see betting shop punters tearing their tickets up as early as the 4 or 5 furlong pole as their runner is hopelessly outpaced or totally unbalanced in the early stages..
To say these races were somewhat hectic would be a somewhat understatement, of course, these races offer many opportunities to the shrewd layer.
Looking at a horses previous form, in a similar race can throw up many clues as to how it may perform in today's race
1) Does it often leave the stalls late or is it fast away?
2) Has it raced on this track before?
3) Has it raced on this surface before
4) Has it raced left handed/right handed before?
5) Does it have a favorable draw?
6) Is it younger or older than other fancied horses?
7) How much weight is it carrying more or less than other fancied horses
8) Is it Male or Female?
9) Is it a winner over the distance?
You get the idea, obviously we are looking for a horse where on previous occasions it may not have had a straightforward
run, i.e is it a bit slower than others out of the stalls, what does it do at the finish, does it run on or does it seem to not have much of a cruising speed, does it try at the finish to get it's head in front or does it hold it's head carriage up and flash it's tail, (check the video form) does the form indicate it may be a not straightforward ride.
My perfect lay bet in a sprint would be a combination (not necessarily all of these factors) of the above - perhaps with a horse or filly that hasn't run in 2 or 3 weeks, carrying a fair bit of weight considering it may not have achieved much in the past, badly drawn and not the quickest beast out of the traps - not a course & distance winner.

run, i.e is it a bit slower than others out of the stalls, what does it do at the finish, does it run on or does it seem to not have much of a cruising speed, does it try at the finish to get it's head in front or does it hold it's head carriage up and flash it's tail, (check the video form) does the form indicate it may be a not straightforward ride.

Wednesday 5th May Afternoon Update
A good day today with both lays getting well beaten, our sprint filly- Primo Way in the 1.45 @ Chester was 3rd @ 3/1,and Sarah's Boy in the 3.30 Southwell was 3rd @ 10/3
I said in an earlier post, I was looking forward to mid May as this is when our filly sprinter systems start to click in to overdrive - if you aren't a member of the lay service yet, this would be a good time
Let's keep the momentum going and get Magnum Racing back on TOP again ! and get some money
in our pockets once again...
I will be back tomorrow

My Horse Racing Tips for a Perfect Lay Bet on Betfair
Having made a lot of money from laying over the years, I wanted to pass on some of my best lay tips on to you
Handicap Sprint Lays, for a Perfect Lay Bet.
At the start of each 5 & 6 Furlong dash, you can see the melee as the race begins to unfold, the dash to the line starts where every race starts - the stalls.
As these sprinters fly out of the traps, the bee-line for the best position is sought.
Often it wil lbe a jostling match with a lot of bumping & barging with perhaps the favourite sometimes getting the worst of it.
As these powerful sprinters go thundering down the track, you can often see the betting shop punters tearing their tickets in rage as early as the 4 or 5 furlong pole as their runner is hopelesssly outpaced or totally unbalanced in the early stages.
To say these races were somewhat erratic would be a somewhat understatement, of course, these races offer many opportunities to the streetwise layer.
Looking at a horses previous form, in a similar race can throw up many clues as to how it may perform in today's race
1) Does it often leave the stalls late or is it fast away?
2) Has it raced on this track before ?
3) Has it raced on this surface before
4) Has it raced left handed/right handed before ?
5) Does it have a favourable draw ?
6) Is it younger or older than other fancied horses?
7) How much weight is it carrying more or less than other fancied horses
8) Is it Male or Female ?
9) Is it a winner over the distance ?
You get the idea, obviously we are looking for a horse where on previous occasions it may not have had a straightforward
run, i.e is it a bit slower than others out of the stalls, what does it do at the finish, does it run on or does it seem to not
have much of a cruising speed.
Does it try at the finish to get it's head in front or does it hold it's head carriage up and flash
it's tail, (check the video form), does the form indicate it may be a not straightforward ride.
My perfect lay bet in a sprint would be a combination (not neccesarily all of these factors) of the above - perhaps with a horse
or filly that hasn't run in 2 or 3 weeks, carrying a fair bit of weight considering it may not have achieved much in the past,
badly drawn and not the quickest beast out of the traps - certainly not a course & distance winner.
I also like it when the favourite is a filly taking on the colts, some od go on to win but a heck of a lot of these lose
