Magnum Horse Racing - Lay Horses To Lose - Update Monday Evening

Good Evening

We had 3 lays today, one went on to win and the other 2 lost their respective
races.

I really din't think Nurai would win today, this filly did not look good on the book - on the book and in my view, she was not as good as her two market rivals however she came through to win, and a casual remark after the race on betfair radio by one of te commentaters summed it up - "Trainer looks to have puposely been running it over the wrong distances to bring her handicap mark down".

Diamond Daisy, I didn't expect much from this filly and wasn't disappointed as her market rival easily beat her and she was unplaced.

Resentful Angel was 3rd

Lay False Favourites

Friday, 25 June 2010

Make Money on Betfair - Laying False Favourites To Lose in Handicaps

Yes, you can make money on Betfair, laying false favorite in handicaps.

Laying horses to lose is mainly about common sense - if you want to be a long term player, it simply wont happen if you keep laying favorites in novice hurdles, maiden races, auction races, bumper races or claimers or sellers.

Why?

Well, look at the stats, look at any course in the UK when they have a race meeting on and go to the racing post race cards for that meeting - open the drop down list under "favorites" and see for yourself the percentage of favorites that win these races. Novice Hurdles? these races can have a favorite WIN rate as high as 45% at some courses - it's almost worth while BACKING them to win at some courses.

Some maiden races at certain courses have equally high WIN rates... No, not for me.

No, I have to say, Handicaps are for me and the sprintier (is there such a word?) the better. - sprints are races of 5 or 6 Furlongs, and they usually get lots of jostling at the start as the race is short and everyone is trying to get the best position early on.

Now, not just any old handicaps - most tracks record less favorites winning in all age handicaps, 4yo+ are best. These are seasoned performers who have shown their worth (or lack of it), yes some are still open to improvement but generally - the cards are on the table for these horses.

Unlike 2 or 3 year old handicaps, surprises are more uncommon - this gives us a great foundation for laying.

What do I look for? Horses that have won previously and a re now being asked to do MORE - i.e up in class, up (or down) in trip, these horses may also be carrying MORE weight - now horses unproven at the distance, unproven at rise in class, unproven at the track can all be good prospects to lay, however if the opposition is pretty poor - the horse could still win - Right?

What we need to look at is - is this the only fancied horse in the race? - do some of its market rivals have winning form?, is its winning form in the class of the race today (this is good). Have these rivals been running on this surface before, have they been winning on this surface before, this distance, at this track etc.

You will be surprised at how many horses are made favorite even though the horse has never run at the track or distance. Some tracks are stiffer than others.

you get the general idea - look for favorites in all age 4YO+ handicaps at tracks where the favorite wins less than 30% of the time in these races. Look for favorites expected to run up in class for the first time, unsure at the distance, going etc - perhaps at this track for the first time.

I hope this will help you in your quest for laying false favorites - for more information go here

Evening Update - Tuesday 22nd June

Evening All

Well, both lays lost well today.

Our first was Jeremy Noseda's Desert Liason in the 3.00 at Brighton which clearly wasn't fancied by the yard and went off 7/2, you could get 3.95 on Betfair earlier on, so hopefully everyone was on that one.

Our next one was the curiously named Akinoshirabe, with Kieren Fallon on board in the much delayed 8.30 Newbury. Akinoshirabe didn't really want be there as she played up going in to the starting stalls and wasn't much better when being alllowed to race, finishing an eased down 5th.

2 good results, shame they are not account bets due to price but their you go, we have had plenty of lays losing their races this month but not counting as lays... on to tomorrow

Keith

Magnum Racing - Noon Message - Tuesday 22nd June

Good Afternoon

Our sole BET - Jutland won for us on the Winners Service yesterday, all bets are proofed and advised at
Betfair SP only - this has been a profitable service since inception. The downside, is a big bank is required and plenty of patienceas winners are few & far between but when they do, we get several in the 33/1 - 16/1 range,
yesterday's 5/2 was a bit short.

Today on the Magnum Lay Service we have 2 lays, one is at Brighton and the other is running at Newbury tonight, their will be an update around 9pm tonight

Have a good day,

Keith

Liel in the 7.20 at Chepstow - with Kieren Fallon on board, this drifted to 9/2 this was also 10th,
and our last lay Dance East in the 8.10 at Windsor won by a head @ 15/8.

Onwards & Upwards - Sunday June 20th

Good Morning

I don't have anything strong enough for a lay today
My message to you....
Just a quick word about our recent results - we have had periods like this
in the past, we no doubt will have periods like this again in the future,
but we also get amazing periods where everything loses and runs of 33 & 22
+ plus other long runs of losing favourites - (winning lays for us) have occurred.

As with all aspects of business, you need strong capital (a good betting
bank) and resilience (I hope I have spelt that properly)

With lay betting, especially when you are laying short prices, as we do -
its not unusual to get groups of winners (losing lays), it's the nature of
taking on favourites.

In the 80's when I owned betting shops in the Camberley & Takeley area's
it wasn't unusual for my shops to lose money for weeks, only
for us to make good profits at the year's end
I would love to make you a winner everyday, unfortunately it doesn't work
like that, when I spend a couple of hours in the morning finding what I
think is a good loser, and it goes and wins - my heart sinks with
disappointment, especially as my own money just went south
But we have to all keep on going, we have 50+ 100+ point banks (this is
the reason) to keep us in the game, we always come out winning in the end,
sometimes it takes a bit of time....

Onwards and upwards... keep up to date with the daily blah on  the blog.
Have a great day and I will see you all tomorrow.

Evening Update - Friday 18th June

Good Evening

Well, we got 3 from 4 right that actually ran, but only 3 qualified as our first one Desert Forest in the 1.50 Musselburgh -(unplaced @ 4/1) drifted out at one stage to a massive 12.5 on betfair.

First Class Favour was our first qualifyer, this ran in the 2.55 Musselburgh, and was unplaced @ 4/5.

Star Twighlight in the 5.40 @ Redcar was withdrawn at the start.

Centurio, in the 8.40 @ Newmarket, won @ 5/2 after a long photo, and eventually was named the winner by a nose.

Six Diamonds in the 9.10 Newmarket was unplaced @ 2/1.

Summary - a frustrating day, a losing day for us by a nose...

Back tomorrow

Thursday Evening Update

Good Evening

Today we had 3 lays, our first was Polish World in the 5.40 at Ripon which won fairly easily at 13/8.

Our 2nd was Kissing Clara in the 6.30 at Beverley, this lost, it ran well but had to settle for 2nd place at 3/1.

Our last one was Mrs Mogg in the 8.10 at Leicester, this one got well beat at 5/1
unplaced but the price was too high to get involved (again aaaaagh). so down around a point on the day... tomorrow beckons

Ascot - 15th June - Evening Update

Evening All

We had 2 lays today, both at Ascot - the first was Strong Suit in the 4.25, this duly won at 15/8, although
it only won by a nose, it got boxed in all over the place and would probably have won by a bigger margin.
It was running up against some class horses here and looking back to it's form, although it looked capable, so did several others, but Strong Suit ,was the better horse on the day.

Our other horse, Metropolitan Man had so many negatives against it, going back to the old days of 2008 when some lays used to be double strength lays (2 points), I think this would have been a 5 pointer - I didn't really think this had any chance at all of winning this, it was a talking horse with a shortish price but it dropped out very tamely to lose at 9/4.

About a point + down on the day, we have had a few winners at the start of June but I am always confident that we will be in profit by the end of the month, this is the only yardstick that counts in this game, that's why we have 50 point + banks to take care of any short term losses

Lets see if we can add some points to the bank tomorrow

Horse Racing Systems - Cut the Marketing Crap!

Who else is sick and tired of "MARKETING CRAP" like this...

"Only the first 100 people will be get this for the give away price of just 37.00, after that, its going to be more than double.

You Snooze, You Lose… Don’t say you weren't warned…

We should be charging $287... BUT! IF YOU ORDER TODAY
THE PRICE WILL ONLY BE $97, $77! That's a massive 75% off the normal price!

"This system is so good you just cant lose" You too can make 50,000 a year working only 20 minutes a day.

What the hell as any of that crap got to do with racing...absolutely nothing. Its all about extracting tons of money from inexperienced punters and nothing else.

Lets be honest how many of you guys have actually purchased a system because of the above statements. Probably loads of you right, I'm not trying to insult you, hey I have been there myself many times and wasted plenty of cash just like you.

These are just a small sample of the worst kind of pressure sales methods around. Don't buy hype, look for a laying system that has been proven, something that is based around sound long-term racing principles that are proven to work, something that will teach you how to avoid all the pitfalls associated with laying horses.

Two cows are standing in a field.
One says to the other "Are you worried about Mad Cow Disease?"
The other one says "No, It doesn't worry me, I'm a horse!"

Hazytoo nicks it for us

Hazytoo (6pm Salisbury) got up by a neck to win at 16/1 for us on the Magnum Winners Service this paid a massive 24.51 at Betfair SP, which as you know is what we recommend you back them at.

Now I know the win ration on this service is quite low, but prices are high and overall a nice profit has been made over the last few months, alright you are not backing winners everyday (who does that?) but at least you are backing at value prices.

Horses Fit to Lose

If you want to put your laying on a profitable level, you need to be in possesion of all the key facts.

Today, we are going to talk about fitness, how can you tell if a horse is fit ?

Well, some horses - especially on the all weather are out nearly every week, or so it seems - whilst others perform better at a certain time of year - you've probably heard trainers on TV saying things like "well, he's a spring horse" etc etc.

Now, when looking for horses to lay, I look for horses who either have not run in a fair while - 30+ days, or horses who are over-run, i.e keep running every few days, perhaps these are running up a winning sequence.

Now, in handicaps, horses that keep winning, tend to keep getting the weight piled on until they STOP WINNING.. yes you don't know, just because the horse has won twice on the trot - if it will lose today, it may knock up another 2 or 3 wins. but take a look:

Is the huge weight it's carrying today, for the distance it's going too much at TOO LOW a price today.
I'm amazed at just how many horses, who have won their last 2 or 3 starts are entered up in say a 3 mile chase carrying a huge weight, and are starting @ say 4/6 favourite - people are lumping on based
on what the horse has achieved on its last two starts..

It may never have won/run before on today's sticky ground

It may never have won/run before on today's distance

It may never have won/run before on today's track

Yes, @ 4/6 people go crazy as if defeat is IMPOSSIBLE... this plays right into the layers hands - the bookies love these sort of bets and will take money on them all day long, I know because I used
to be a bookmaker and in a year, you could probably buy a brand new Range Rover just by taking these bets alone.

Just before I recap, here is something you may or not know - horses that have run in the last 9 days or so are of particular DANGER to layers, possibly because they are either being run to defy a penalty (a future increase in weight) or the horse is running like a machine, these are especially dangerous when running in Handicap Sprints on the ALL WEATHER
And (AMAZINGLY SO) horses with triple digit runs, i.e 100+ days since a run pose a big danger, especially in handicap sprints if they have been rated highly - especially horses whose maximum past ratings
(using the Adrian Massey stats here)are quite superior to the horses rated today - sorry if that sounds gobbldegook but you need be a viewer of the Adrian Massey site to understand this.
Talking about Adrian Massey ratings - The excellent Adrian Massey site is free - you might want donate to
Adrian's favourite charity to get ALL THE CARDS each day. Drop him an email about his current policy on this. Adrian Massey

How Well Do You Play by Jordan Rocksmith

Vegas style gaming has branched out from the Nevada desert to encompass a number of different venues throughout the United States.

One of these desirable locations is in the state capital of California where the Sacramento casino is attracting people from all over the northern part of the state that can find a variety of table action for those that care to test their skill and luck in the pit.

Having a growing number of followers that are closely watching the head-to-head competition of the professional circuit, the World Poker Tour has given enthusiasts an up close look at what it takes to play Texas Hold em. Another popular game that draws a crowd is Blackjack. With some practice these two most easily recognized card competitions provide hours of entertainment to people that enjoy spending their time calculating their odds of winning a payout.

Of course after sitting in the same seat for some time a visit to the in-house lounge or dining room where chefs prepare meals that are fit for the winner who has been fortunate in their playing.

Offering a variety of entrees and desserts, as well as breakfast day long guests can take a break from the thrill of the tables and feed their appetite. In the card rooms there is always an opportunity to go up against an opponent and after taking the time to study their tell take them down through a well played hand.

Because of the art of gaming is as much about reading an opponent as it is about what hand you have been dealt the challenge in winning comes down to how well you can anticipate the bluffs of the others at the table as well as what kind of cards you are holding.
With a few simple rules to follow and the ability to know how to bet and raise the stakes anyone can find themselves at the end of a tournament as the undisputed winner.

Capitol Casino (http://www.capitol-casino.com/) offers first class entertainment that makes Sacramento casino definitely a hub for leisure, luxury and fortune.

Magnum Horse Racing - Evening Update Thursday June 3rd

Good Evening

Well, both lays lost nicely for us but unfortunately again, both were too big a price to lay - if you did
then good luck to you but my money stayed in my Betfair Account. It's a bit frustrating when they lose but
are too big to lay but it will even itself out in the long run.

I will be back tomorrow with hopefully - more losers

Too Successful ?

Hi Keith

I' d like to ask you a couple of things apart from magnum,if thats ok and been an ex bookmaker you might be able to help me.

I'm also a member of on the oche (and like yourself is a very profitable and excellent service)also going to add football elite later this year to my portfolio.

However i also try and use the free tips hugh taylor gives out on the at the races website.

Theres so many mug punters out there who must be backing his horses at any prices, you can take advantage of this as long as you get on advised prices.

He normally gives bets out between 10 and 11 so you have to keep refreshing the page, and then you only have a couple of minutes before prices are gone,

so i just concentrate on the one bet and only bet if i can get the advised price.

Excellent trading opportunities as i always lay my stake back at lesser odds giving me free bets, the last 7 months i,ve made about £4000 with hardly any risk.

I try to use shops as much as possible because its alot easier to put bets on,as alot of my accounts are getting restricted.

Now i don,t have any problems with ladbrokes as yet,but up to a couple of weeks ago william hills were taking my bets no problem, then i had a £200 winner at 13/2 witch i laid back at 9/2.Overall i,d say my hills phone account is making a loss there end and a profit my end if you know what i mean.

Now every time i call hills im put on hold and refered to trading and even just cut off the other day,for example i wanted a £100 at 12/1 and they only offered me £25.

Just wondering when my account details come up does it come up red alert hugh taylor bet refer to trader or something similar, they are really doing my head in to be honest.

You been an ex bookmaker how do traders actually operate and make decisions.

Is there a way i can get round this maybe closing my account leaving it a few weeks and re opening on a different card.

Bookmakers make millions off all the mug punters why can,t they just give a little back for the likes of us !

Sorry for going on a bit.

Regards richie.

Hi Richie

Bookmakers make their profits providing a service to punters, it's not about winners or losers - its all about profit.

Don't take it personally if you get restricted, look on it as YOU being an intelligent punter, and as with all intelligent punters, you have ot work out ways of getitng on, and getting on at the best prices

Bookmakers just want to make money and Bookmakers intelligence today is huge, as they have so much technology these days.

The only WINNING accounts bookmakers tolerate is the free accounts that are given to trainers to bet on their own horses, even if these accounts show a loss, its rare for the bokmaker to ask for the money, as this account, tips off the bookmaker that the yard is ON"

Be honest, if YOU were running a business, would you keep letting people take your profits ?

I would suggest, if possible using the exchanges more - you tend to get better prices on larger priced runners anyway, and their are several exchanges out there.

Another way is to get a friend to help you out, ask them to open an account and then let you use it, closing an account then re-opening at a later date with the same card, name and address will not stop them putting a restriction on your account - just the opposite really as this will only arouse suspicion.
Their are plenty of Bookmakers out there, I would suggest you open as many accounts as you can and make full use of them, coupled with some exchange accounts.

I hope this helps

Friday 21st May - Magnum Horse Racing Evening Update

Good Evening

It's a sort of De Javu (I hope i've spelt that right)

4 horses again and the first one wins again !! a bit like Groundhog day! lol - Our first Lay, Wake Up Call in the 2.30 Yarmouth ran a good race to win at odds on 4/5.

Our next lay was Faithful Dutchess in the 3.20 Catterick - ran no sort of race at all really to finish 5th @ 11/4

Foreign Rhythm was next in the 5.20 at Catterick - thiswas not really at the races at all and finished 6th, shame it drifted to 7/2 but my guess is, most of you were on ;-)

And last but not least, the 7.30 at Haydock and Red Gulch, the mount of Kieren Fallon, plenty of money
for this horse backing it down from 5/2 to 6/4 but just wasn't good enough.

Right, i'll be back tomorrow, have good evening

Magnum Racing Evening Update - A Strange Day ? May 19th Wednesday

Evening Everyone

I don't know about you but it seemed a bit of an odd day today, we had 4 potential lays, 3 lost
one won.  Mediterranean Sea in the 1.50 Lingfield was a winner @ 10/3, it was slightly outside of our range to proof but people were most certainly on as it ranged greatly in avaialble prices, the lowest I saw was 2.78.

Crazy Parachute in the 4.10 Lingfield,  ridden by the same pilot Ryan Moore was all over the place in running, avaialble at 3/1 & 11/4 before the off, but  finished a distant 10th @ 4/1, again outside of our proofing range.

Silver Story in the 6.50 Worcester went on a massive drift in price from 7/2, eventually unseating the rider
after making several mistakes finished  @ 7/1, outside of our proofing range

Native Taipan, in the 7.20 Worcester was the only straightforward lay today, going off the 2/1 joint favourite - Robert Thornton's mount tried to make all in this 3 mile novice chase but got easily claimed in the last furlong by the other McCoy ridden Joint favourite (McCoy did us a favour this time) American world and
Mzuri Bay.

Native Taipan finished 3rd @ 2/1 rounding off the evening and a somewhat frustrating day

Roll on tomorrow

Goodnight

Magnum Noon Message Tuesday May the 18th

Good Afternoon

The message is a little bit late on today but it is indeed a very quiet day. This is fine as it gives me a chance
to just have a quick chat about something.

As you know, I don't normally recommend anything to you outside of racing, and the products or services
that I can recommend are tried and trusted products.

Have quite a lot of Magnum members gives you a good perspective on what people really want and the obvious answer when it comes ot our service is "To Make Money"

Now I have started this year to do a lot more marketing online, not just for the Magnum Lay Service but
also for the Perfect Lays system, I also have one or two other products I market to people.

Magnum members have indicated to me in the past, they would like perhaps to create an online income, perhaps part time or even as a full time income eventually.

I got very interested in this product as the "opener" is a series of FREE Videos (worth$197) about how
a NEWBIE can make money online - you might want to CLICK HERE and take a look.

No update message tonight, see you tomorrow

Monday 17th May Evening Update

Good Evening

Well, not a great start to our week. Flouncing was 3rd @ 9/2 but was well over our guide price,
which was a shame as I took 3.85 this morning. Now I know some of you were probably on it anyway
but i have a tip you may want to try.

When I work on these horses in the morning, I obviously take into account it's chances of winning
as opposed to it's price on offer, now with Flouncing, in my view this was 3/1 chance, however when she
started drifting out beyond this price, we are no longer at an advantage because if she wins (drifters often do)
the price starts to become value to the backers.

Now I was asked the other day, "so what if it drifts out beyond the recommended price as long as we aren't
on past 3/1 (4.0), it shouldn't matter - this is true in many repects except the amount that do go on to win after a seismic drift. I do the following, I BUY it back in with part of the stake in a case like this so I CAN'T LOSE...

In this case 60% of the lay stake as a WIN bet would break you even whatever happend, leaving 40%
of the stake as a profit whatever happened.

I hope I haven't baffled anyone here, but if you need further explaination, let me know

keitheverett@nltworld.com

Our other lay - Feathered Crown won @ 15/8 (3.0), so depending what you did today, you were either
2.0 points down or 1.05 points down.

Worst ways we are still 9.8 points UP on the Month and we have plenty of time to go to get to INCREASE
this before the end of the month.

If you are not a Magnum member yet - confidence has never been so high in the Magnum camp
and I fully expect this year to turn into our BEST yet......

Have a good night

See you tomorrow, where we can do it all again..

Horse Racing - The Different Types of UK Races

To someone new to horse racing, it can be very confusing trying to understand the different types of horse races. In this article I just want to try and explain in simple terms what they all mean. First of all there are three different types of professional horse racing in the UK. They are Flat racing, all weather and national hunt. When we talk about flat racing we are talking about races on the turf and the season runs from April until November.
All weather racing is also run over the flat but on a poly track or fibre sand surface. The main all weather racing takes place from November until March. National hunt is predominantly a winter sport involving racing and jumping either over fences or the small obstacles called hurdles. There are also a few national hunt flat races which are also called bumper races.
In flat racing there are 5 Classic races spread throughout the season. These are The Derby, Oaks, 1000 and 2000 guineas and the St Ledger. In National Hunt the 2 main races are the Gold Cup at Cheltenham and the King George VI held on Boxing Day at Kempton Park.
Some races are restricted to horses of a specific age such as 2 or 3 year olds and others may be limited to horses that have never won a race and are known as maiden races. Two other types of race that you may come across are sellers and auction races. A horse that wins a selling race will after the race be offered up for sale in an auction and so these contests are usually for horses of lesser ability. It may sound as though the same thing would happen to the winner of an auction race but in fact it is not. An auction race is for horses that have been purchased as yearlings at public auction and the winner is not offered for sale after the race.
The other terms that you will come across are handicap and non-handicap. In a handicap race an official aptly named the handicapper assesses the form of all the horses entered in the race and based on that allots a weight for each horse to carry. What in theory he is trying to do is make it so all the horses in the race finish together. Of course that very rarely happens but can make for exciting racing. In non-handicap races the horse in theory all carry the same weight. I say in theory because allowance is made for age, sex and the experience of the jockey riding the horse.
An understanding of the various types of horse race can help you in your search to find the winner of a race.

Back Amongst The Winners

Good Evening

Johannes won for us today @ 11/1 paying 14.29 on Betfair. This follows on from recent winners
of 14/1 & 12/1 in the last few days. This service has really taken off recenly and even with some long losing
runs, the profits are good and the service is already creeping up the Racing Index rankings.

Evening update - Wednesday 12th May

Evening Folks!

We had 3 lays today on the Magnum Lay Service , our first one was Forte Dei Marmi in the 1.40 at York,
this was a well betaen 4th @ 9/4.

Our next lay was Shinnecock Bay, in the 2.20 Exeter and ridden by AP McCoy - this lost and was 8th, it's a shame this drifted badly to 9/2 as it won't count in our results as it was too big to lay.

Our third one won @ 15/8, this was Cappagh in the 2.50 at Exeter, this ran a fairly good race and was
coerced to win by the champ, he won, we lost - you can't win them all.

Down, 1.2 points on the day, net profit on the month +9.9

A Break Even Day at The Office...

Today we had 2 lays on the Magnum Lay Service, the first was Touch Tone who came 2nd @ 5/4
and our other lay was Synthe Davis which ran a very scratchy race all the way around and was being niggled along most of the way by AP McCoy but did go on to win @11/8.

A small profit, or break even on the day, depending on the price you took

This takes this month's profit to +11.1 points profit at the moment

A Question From Michael - Monday Evening 10th May

Evening Keith

You are flying at the moment and well done however I have missed out on a couple of occasions, namely today and yesterday and for some reason I wasn't matched.

I usually log on to betfair straight away after I have received your selections and place the lays immediately if 4.0 or below and if not leave a lay at 4.0 to be placed if and when it drops with bet to be cancelled at start of the race.

Yesterday with Supreme Plan had to leave the lay as not trading at 4.0 or below when I looked and this was never matched even though sp was 5/2 and bsp was 3.75. Again today similar scenario with Cheviot with sp of 11/4 and bsp was 4.23. So basically I have missed out on 1.9 points profit so any suggestions.

Also today with the Barney Curley horse placed a lay at 4.0 and returned at bsp of 1.58 (massive gamble going down as always with his runners) now had that horse won I would have been 3 points down as opposed to just over half a point. Now I am not complaining about the selections as they are spot on just the fact that I don't always get matched.

I think the only time it went against me was when I laid at 4.0 which was accepted then it drifted way out to make it a no lay but I had already laid it at 4.0 about half an hour before which I find incredibly frustrating when the horse then goes and wins.

So what do you advise?

Thanks in advance for any help
Mick

Answer:

Hi Mick

Thanks for letting me answer this question on the Blog, other members & guests probably have the same
problems so it's nice that we can have a forum type situation, if anyone else has any other questions, please reply to this post.

You have also told me you are not by a computer ALL DAY...

I think it's always awkward when their are parameters for prices, we stopped advising laying at Betfair SP
because even though the price was right, the mighty betfair maching still didn't always take the money even
though there is a fortune traded through Betfair before the off - when you leave lays, it's always a risk you
may not get matched.

With regard to getting caught out on a big drifter (one of my pet hates) you could lay it at 4.0 in the morning, then place a proviso win bet with a minimum price of say 5.0, then if they drift and win you would not have been on the lay side but you would have been on the win side, and you would make a small profit.

It's always a balancing act trying to get the right price to lay at and you are not going to get it right all the
time, if you see a horse at 4.2 and the advice is lay @ 4.0 or under I would probably take it, I'm very confident in the overall picture of things that our new strategy of 4.0 or under will pay off in the long term as we will always hover around the 80% win rate (past months may have dropped our strike rate to about 77%
but as long as we always lay at around the 4.0 mark, we must profit in the long run, AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON...

To always be on may mean having to stretch the price over a bit, I personally won't lay at over 4.0 now but if
I couldn't be here to keep an eye on the price, I would either place a lay and a back bet as explained earlier or on the odd occasion, lessen the stake slightly to keep the same liability as if it was a normal stake on at 4.0.

As you said, you can phone the lay over, they should be able to give you an idea of where the price is heading, remember if in doubt - leave it out.

My Horse Racing Tips for a Perfect Lay Bet

Having discovered the fortunes of laying some 4 years ago, I wanted to pass some of my best lay tips on to you

The Power of the Sprint lay.

At the start of a 5 & 6 Furlong dash, and in 7 furlong races, the dash to the line starts where every race starts - the stalls. As these sprinters fly out of the traps, the bee-line for the best position is sought.

Often it can be a hostile barging match with the favorite sometimes getting the worst of it.

As these powerful sprinters go hurtling down the track, you can often see betting shop punters tearing their tickets up as early as the 4 or 5 furlong pole as their runner is hopelessly outpaced or totally unbalanced in the early stages..

To say these races were somewhat hectic would be a somewhat understatement, of course, these races offer many opportunities to the shrewd layer.

Looking at a horses previous form, in a similar race can throw up many clues as to how it may perform in today's race

1) Does it often leave the stalls late or is it fast away?

2) Has it raced on this track before?

3) Has it raced on this surface before

4) Has it raced left handed/right handed before?

5) Does it have a favorable draw?

6) Is it younger or older than other fancied horses?

7) How much weight is it carrying more or less than other fancied horses

8) Is it Male or Female?

9) Is it a winner over the distance?

You get the idea, obviously we are looking for a horse where on previous occasions it may not have had a straightforward

run, i.e is it a bit slower than others out of the stalls, what does it do at the finish, does it run on or does it seem to not have much of a cruising speed, does it try at the finish to get it's head in front or does it hold it's head carriage up and flash it's tail, (check the video form) does the form indicate it may be a not straightforward ride.

My perfect lay bet in a sprint would be a combination (not necessarily all of these factors) of the above - perhaps with a horse or filly that hasn't run in 2 or 3 weeks, carrying a fair bit of weight considering it may not have achieved much in the past, badly drawn and not the quickest beast out of the traps - not a course & distance winner.

My Horse Racing Tips for a Perfect Lay Bet on Betfair

Having made a lot of money from laying over the years, I wanted to pass on some of my best lay tips on to you

Handicap Sprint Lays, for a Perfect Lay Bet.

At the start of each 5 & 6 Furlong dash, you can see the melee as the race begins to unfold, the dash to the line starts where every race starts - the stalls.

As these sprinters fly out of the traps, the bee-line for the best position is sought.

Often it wil lbe a jostling match with a lot of bumping & barging with perhaps the favourite sometimes getting the worst of it.

As these powerful sprinters go thundering down the track, you can often see the betting shop punters tearing their tickets in rage as early as the 4 or 5 furlong pole as their runner is hopelesssly outpaced or totally unbalanced in the early stages.

To say these races were somewhat erratic would be a somewhat understatement, of course, these races offer many opportunities to the streetwise layer.

Looking at a horses previous form, in a similar race can throw up many clues as to how it may perform in today's race

1) Does it often leave the stalls late or is it fast away?

2) Has it raced on this track before ?

3) Has it raced on this surface before

4) Has it raced left handed/right handed before ?

5) Does it have a favourable draw ?

6) Is it younger or older than other fancied horses?

7) How much weight is it carrying more or less than other fancied horses

9) Is it a winner over the distance ?

badly drawn and not the quickest beast out of the traps - certainly not a course & distance winner.

I also like it when the favourite is a filly taking on the colts, some od go on to win but a heck of a lot of these lose

Here's your Perfect Lay System

Magnum - Update Friday 30th April Evening

Hi, we finished the month with a winning lay on the lay service but overall, it hasn't been great.

We put out lay levels down this month to 3/1 and recommended all lays to be @ 4.0 or under, this triggered
the law of s*d and of course most of the lays over 3/1 went on to lose, whilst several horses under the limit going on to win

The service has been under strain lately, but as always I am working to rectify any shortcomings we get, I am
currently looking at several other strategies to improve the lay service, belive me, I know I have been blathering
on all month about the Perfect Lays system but the Lay Service is my No1 Priority and always will be - and I want us to get back on track again.

Lets look forward to a new month,

Speak soon

Keith

Thursday Evening Update

Good Evening

On the Magnum Lay service, we had two lays today, our first - Chit Chat Ridden by Tony McCoy, drifted
badly before the off and was well beaten, but not at a price we could sensibly lay at.

Our 2nd Magnum Lay was in the 8.10 at Huntingdon, Knock Em Dead, another McCoy mount, this came 2nd @ 3/1

On the Perfect Lays system, our first one - Astracad won @ 3/1 & the 2nd one - Knock Em Dead, as I mentioned earlier, came 2nd @ 3/1

Have a good night, I will be back tomorrow

Hi, just the one further lay tonight, that was from the perfect lays system, it ran in the 7.50 @ Sedgefield
Overrule was 4th @ 3/1 (4.92)

Early evening update Tuesday 27th April

Good Evening

Mary's pet on both the Magnum Lay service I Perfect Lays system finished 3rd @ 4/1 (5.5) - too high
a price for me. The only other selection so far today was Jenny Potts, this was also on the Perfect Lays
system and finished 3rd @ 3/1 (4.26)

Their may be another one on the system tonight at Sedgefield, but at the moment the price of this horse is a little bit too high.

I will update you later if any more selections crop up

Tuesday 27th April

Good Afternoon

We're a bit late on the Blog today - we have a possible lay so far @ Lingfield both on the lay service and the

Sunday Message

Good Morning

I was unable to do an update on the blog yesterday, it wans't a good day for the service and its been a wretched month. We had 2 on the Magnum service, only one qualified, this won @ 5/2 (typical), I also had one on the perfect lays system which ran3rd @ 13/8 - this was Twist Magic and typically the system knew best as I should have given this on the Magnum service.

Anyway, let's look forward, May should be a cracking month for us as the flat form is gradually settling down, we have one on the lay service today and the same horse on perfect lays

It will be a late, late update today, possibly early hours of Monday, have a good day.

Saturday, 24 April 2010

Why I love to lay horses to lose

How to make money from horse racing whilst having a whole lot of fun

Did you know that less than 2% of people actually make any money from horse racing?

It’s true, their is an absolute mass of information out there via websites, magazines, the form book, etc on how to win at horseracing, yet still most people cannot turn a profit in the long term and end up losing money – why is that ?

It’s quite simple really – people tend to treat it as a bit of a game, a laugh, not to be taken too seriously.

Bookmakers get rich on this cavalier attitude, they have big, big houses paid for and furnished by the “mugs” who throw their money away on hopeless strategies and chance

They love the lucky fifteens, the 6 horse accumulators and the 12 match coupon, these bets pay for all their luxury holidays

Do you know of any other moneymaking enterprise where you would leave so much to chance?

If you ran your everyday business on tips & hearsay, you would soon be broke, wouldn’t you?

That’s not to say that their aren’t some good tipsters about, their are, but very few, good long term profitable ones.

So why leave horseracing to chance? sure it’s a lot of fun watching your horse run & lose, isn’t it ?

Only if you lay horses, then it’s fun, if not – it’s not fun, it’s MADNESS!!

Why do I lay horses to lose?

It’s simple, I have more horses running for me in any given race than people who are backing to win and although it’s not easy, I find it easier to find a short priced loser, than to find a reasonable priced winner.. this is very important.

It’s no good betting on favourites

A third of favourites win, most punters bet the favourite, and although they win some of the time, because of the mean prices on offer most of the time, they will lose money overall.

What about betting on outsiders? Well, this is purely for pin stickers unless “you know something”, if a third of all favourites win, this would leave 2 thirds of all winners coming from the 2nd favourite upwards – now approx 25% of winners come from the 2nd favourite so it doesn’t leave a lot of room for the masses of outsiders that run each day.

Even with years of form study, you would still need a large bank, the patience of a saint and must expect very long losing runs – most professional gamblers have been broke a few times before they got it right.

So, how am I better off laying horses to lose?

Psychologically, you are better off because you will win more times than you lose (if you are doing this correctly), also from a fun point of view, whereas with betting to win, you are cheering one horse home, only to find it blunders over the last and unseats the rider.

With laying to lose you are cheering everything on in the race, except the horse you have laid to lose, believe me I’ve had some funny looks from people at the racecourse as I switch allegiance to different horses in the last half furlong at my local track.

And finally

Laying horses to lose has given me a lot of great enjoyment and a nice income for spending time in study doing something I love

You need to treat this wonderful business as, just that – a business. Keep accounts of every horse you lay and follow a strategy, a strategy of continuous improvement, find out who knows what they are doing and learn as much from them as you can.

Study all the articles on laying, form your own opinions of course and treat this as a never ending course of learning

And, please stop paying for all those luxuries the bookies so enjoy, let someone else do that.

Keith
